How To Become an Expert In Your Niche When You’re Just Starting Out

Posted on Posted in Entrepreneur Success, Online Business

If you’re new to the online business world, you’ve no doubt asked yourself the question, “When should I start producing content or how can I get the word out about what I’m doing when I don’t have all the answers?!”

When you’re involved with any business, the hardest part is actually starting and having the confidence to stick your neck out for the world to judge you. It’s not easy by any means, and oftentimes most people give themselves a million and one excuses as to why you shouldn’t.

“What about if people don’t like me? What if they see me as a newbie and don’t take me seriously? What if they don’t see me as an expert?”

These fears are totally normal, but in this blog, I want to give you a few reasons why you shouldn’t be too worried about what other people think of you or your business, especially when you’re starting out.

***I’m actually putting out a video on this topic on tomorrow, so keep an eye out for it!

The fear of being ridiculed often trumps the excitement of getting started for so many people.

This makes people stuck in “inaction.” They wait for the perfect moment, and end up waiting so so long that they never do ANYTHING!

At the beginning of any venture, most people don’t have everything figured out, and neither should you. We all have to start somewhere! What you need to do is speak your truth, and slowly but surely you’ll start to see the rewards of your hard work!

Check out this example out of an interview with the late Steve Jobs at the early days of Apple when he hated public speaking. He had to keep improving his craft until he became the master keynote speaker he’s known for.

Keep Moving Forward

You will not improve until you actually do something. You have to execute day after day until things start to come together. Whether that be producing content, podcasts, blogs, you need to take consistent action in order to get better.

The bottom line is, you need to start, keep improving and grow over time.

Don’t Fake It, Speak Your Truth

Don’t fake it til you make it, don’t go out there and pretend you have it all figured out because you’ll quickly get figured out….be honest about what you are trying to achieve and document your journey and what you discover and then share it with others!

It’s hard for anybody new in business to come out of the gate and say something definitive, because you may not have a proven track record…yet.

BUT, at the start, if you just speak your truth, your WHY and the reason behind everything you do, you’ll connect with people that have the same beliefs and goals as you.

How To Become An Expert

In Russell Brunson’s book ‘Expert Secrets’ he gives the BEST example of what you should do when you’re worried about knowing less than the people you are trying to serve.

“There’s a book (and a movie) called Catch Me If You Can that illustrates this pretty well. Frank Abagnale, the main character in the film is a famous con artist who masqueraded as a pilot, pediatrician and a district attorney among other things.

At one point in the book, he starts teaching sociology at Birmingham Young University. He teaches for an entire semester and nobody finds out he’s not a real teacher.

Later on in the film when they catch him, the authorities asked, “How in the world did you teach that class? You don’t know anything about advanced sociology.”

He replied, “All I had to do was read on chapter ahead of the students.”

If you take one thing away from reading this blog it should be this – You don’t have to be the most knowledgeable person in the world on your topic, you just need to be one chapter ahead of the people you’re helping and trying to serve.

Concentrate your efforts in helping your potential customers with problems that you can solve right now!

Start small and work your way up until you have more to offer!

Just remember, you only have to stay one chapter ahead to become an expert!

Now go out there and make stuff happen!

To your success,
